Sue Semmens and Will Stewart win 2026 Club Championships

Posted on: 25 January

The 2026 Club Champions have been completed on Sunday 25 January with large crowds enjoying some great golf.

Sue Semmens was looking for her third title in a row and faced another former champion Andrea Burne and early on the duo couldn’t be split.  All square thru the 6 holes, the final had the feel that it was going to go down to the wire. Burne took a slender lead thru 9 holes, but Semmens fought back with a brilliant approach into the 11th to win the hole. The 12th and 13th holes were squared before Semmens made a brilliant up and down from the front of the green on the 14th to take a 1up advantage. Semmens hit a great shot into the 15th which set up a 2up lead before claiming the title after winning the 16th hole.

In the Men’s final, it was Will Stewart taking on Alex Webster in a replay of the 2025 final and once again it was Stewart who jumped to an early lead and found himself 4 up through the first 18 holes. Alex made the stronger start after lunch with 9 holes to play Stewart’s lead had reduced to 1up. Webster won the 10th hole to tie the match and with eight holes to go it was anyone’s match. Holes 11 – 14 were tied before a brilliant iron from Stewart on the 15th was enough for the win and the 1up lead. Both players hit the fairway on the 16th hole but only Stewart found the green and a two putt par would put Stewart tantalizingly close to his first club championship. Webster fought bravely and a par on 17 was enough to take the match to the 36th hole of the day. Webster and Stewart both played poor tee shots but Stewart was on the green for three shots whilst Webster was on for four shots, albeit much closer. Stewart’s first putt left him still 8 feet shy and when Webster holed his 15 foot putt suddenly the prospect of extra holes became a potential outcome. Stewart, undeterred calmly rolled in his putt to clinch his first title.

Marita Garby and Anthea Bickford squared off in the Women’s B Grade Final with Anthea making the strong start to take a 1up lead thru 5. Garby fought back to lead at the turn before hammering the advantage to take a 3up lead after 14 holes. The 15th was squared with bogies leaving Garby to par the 16th and claim the title.

David Roberts and Jack Morley played off in the Men’s B Grade final, and it was Morley who got off to the better start. A brilliant up and down on the 5th hole saw Morley out the blocks early with a 3 up lead. This advantage was maintained throughout the day and he would eventually win the final on the 15th hole.

In the C Grade Women’s final, Sue Noy got off to a fast start in her final against Claire Spring. Despite Spring’s best efforts Noy would maintain and increase her advantage to eventually win 5&4.

In the Men’s C Grade final Robert French was taking on Marcus O’Callaghan and it was French who took the early lead finding himself 2 up after 4. O’Callaghan fought back and in a close final it would eventually be O’Callaghan who would take out the win 2&1.

Well done to all the finalists and winners and thanks to everyone who assisted with scoring and refereeing on the day. Well done to the Match Sub-Committee, the Pro Shop and especially our Director of Golf Shaun Corry for all of their hard work that went into delivering a fantastic instalment of our 2026 Club Championships.
